How to get started in Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is the easiest way to get started online. You can start off
without the need for a website using links directly from ads to the product you are an
affiliate for. One of the first people to come up with idea of using google adwords
traffic to link straight to a merchants sales page was Chris Carpenter.
His manual was a top seller and is still very relevent in todays marketplace.
Affiliate marketing is where product merchants are willing to pay you a
percentage of the sale price for introducing the buyer to their product or service. They
handle all invoicing, product dispatch, customer complaints, refunds etc. This takes all
the pressure away from you and your only goal is to get customer to the merchants sales
letter. There is virtually an unlimited supply of merchants to pick from in a large number
of categories online and offline.
Pay Per Lead
There are companies willing to pay you for as little as
getting people just to click on their website or some require forms or serveys to be
filled out. To send a click to a website you may be paid only 5c per click so this would
only really work if you had a high traffic website already and could set up link to a
website in a corresponding category. Other option in this field are getting paid for every
successful application form filled in. An example may be a mortgage broking company where
every sale to them is worth mabye $2000 so they may pay $5 for every person you can send
to them that inputs their details to receive more info. Survey companies will also pay for
every person you send who completes a survey. This can all add up quite fast if you find a
merchant who can convert your traffic into completed surveys.
Physical Products
Physical products as you can guess vary widely from books,
electronic products, dvd's etc. Anything that is sold online will usually have an
affiliate program online somewhere. Places like Amazon.com
and Commission Junction are places to search for
physical products to be an affiliate for. Generally people will definately compare prices
online and in most cases buy from the cheapest source so do your research to find
companies with competitive prices. The exception to this rule will occur when a customer
feels safer buying online through a reputable company like Amazon.com. The downside to
physical products is the much smaller commission percentage compared to other areas.
Digital Products
This is the largest market for affiliates as the products have very high margins
which means affiliates are paid a large percentage of the sale price. Digital products are
those that the customer can download as soon as the transaction is complete. The advantage
of this is you will capture impulse buyers who want the information immediately. If the
sales letter does a good job of selling the benefits and with the lure of instant access
sales will follow.
Competition can be very high for lots of digital products so affiliates need to
be one step ahead of the game. Some ways to sell digital products are:
- Make a review page of your honest opinion on how the product worked for you. State what
you did not like about the product. This will show you are being honest and build
credability. By the way make sure you have purchased the prodct before using this method.
- Offer bonuses if they buy through your link. Try to make them worthwhile products that
tie in with the main product.
- Offer to include instructions ie: video of e-book on how you use the product to make X
amount of dollars per month. Include this in your adwords add if you can.
- Provide something that is missing in the product that you use to make it more
successful. State that the product is great but realy is missing 1 vital part. You only
get this report by buying through our link.
These are proven ideas I gained from buying Day Job Killer and
learning how to promote it. Read the sales letter to get a good idea of what a great sales
letter should be like. The best place to find digital products is clickbank. For more
